The Department of Anesthesia Technology at the College of Medical and Health Technology held a training workshop on Monday 10/28/2024, in the laboratories of the department , on "Airway Accessories", with the participation of students of the department. The workshop was presented by Asst. Lect. Ahmed Mohamed Obaid, and aimed to train students on how to use airway devices as necessary alternatives to the tracheal tube in anesthesia cases.
The workshop reviewed two basic types of devices used in emergency cases, namely "Orofangel Airway" (oropharyngeal airway) and "Nisofangel Airway" (nasopharyngeal airway), with a focus on their importance in supporting the patient during anesthesia. It also explained how to choose the appropriate size for each patient and avoid complications resulting from using an inappropriate size.
The workshop showed a number of recommendations: to have the recent developments in these devices, and to identify contraindications to the use of the nasopharyngeal device, especially in cases the patient uses blood-thinning medications.
